Accessibility Statement

Latest update : April 23, 2026

1. Commitment

Amaury Lavoine (Discus) is committed to making Discus accessible to as many people as possible, in accordance with the standardWCAG 2.1 level AA. We aim to apply the following accessibility frameworks:

  • Canada: Canadian Accessibility Act (Accessible Canada Act) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • European Union: Directive (EU) 2016/2102 and standard EN 301 549.
  • France: General Accessibility Improvement Framework (RGAA 4.1), aligned with WCAG 2.1.
  • United States: Section 508 of theRehabilitation Act and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

2. Compliance Status

The Service is currently partially compliant with the WCAG 2.1 level AA guidelines. A formal audit is underway. The criteria not yet evaluated are noted as 'to be assessed' in our internal reports and will be publicly updated once the audit is completed.

3. Technologies Used

  • Semantic HTML5;
  • CSS3 (Tailwind CSS);
  • JavaScript (React / Next.js);
  • SVG for icons and lightweight illustrations.

4. Tested Assistive Technologies

The following list will be confirmed after the formal audit. Provisionally, we aim for compatibility with:

  • VoiceOver (iOS, macOS);
  • TalkBack (Android) ;
  • NVDA (Windows) ;
  • JAWS (Windows).

5. Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some limitations remain. We are working to resolve them :

  • Some flags are rendered only visually (SVG) ; the attribute title or an alternative text provides the equivalent textual information.
  • The Ken Burns animation on language pages is disabled when the system preferenceprefers-reduced-motion: reduce is detected.
  • The swipe animation (swipe) of live learning cards may hinder users sensitive to motion ; enhanced support forprefers-reduced-motion is planned.

6. User Feedback

Your feedback is valuable. If you encounter an accessibility issue, please write tocontact@discussapp.com specifying :

  • the URL or screen concerned ;
  • a description of the problem encountered ;
  • the assistive technology used (screen reader, magnifier, keyboard navigation…) and the operating system.

We commit to providing a response within14 days.

7. Recourse

If you do not receive a satisfactory response :

  • Canada : you can contact the Accessibility Commissioner (Accessibility Commissioner) or, in Ontario, the agency responsible for enforcing the AODA.
  • France : you can contact the Defender of Rights (defenseurdesdroits.fr).
  • Other EU States : the national supervisory authority of your country of residence.
  • United States : the Department of Justice can receive complaints under the ADA.

8. Audit Methodology

Our methodology combines automated tools and manual checks:

  • Automated: axe-core, Lighthouse, and CI checks on the main pages.
  • Manual: keyboard-only navigation, screen reader tests, contrast checks, semantic structure inspection.

The findings of the formal audit will be published on this page as soon as they are available.
